The federal program requires filing your request with your tax return. It’s important to ensure you meet the listed criteria to avoid having it rejected.

If you installed your system before January 2023, you are eligible for a 26% tax credit. For installation between January 2023 and January 2024, the credit is 22%.

Here are the required steps:

• Ensure your HVAC system meets ENERGY STAR® criteria.
• After your HVAC installation, fill out IRS Form 5695.
• Keep copies for your records and turn in the original with your tax return.
